The following are some personal recollections from various campers and staff regarding a few of their favorite memories during their Scouting days.

Ray Sutliff (Troop 86, Camp Dimond camper/Dimond O Director, Council Program Director)

Camp Dimond Naturalist Bugs Cain was like a father figure to me since I did not have one growing up.  Bugs taught me the skill of catching rattlesnakes.  One time at Dimond-O during the “Bull Sessions” as they were called, one of the rattlesnakes that Bugs was showing got loose.  While all the Scouts froze in fear, Bugs had me pick up the rattlesnake to the amazement of all the other scouts.

Steve Kline (Wente Camper/Staff)

Cooking meals on the sheep herder stoves at the Scout Reservation and building a fire so big that flames would shoot out of the top of the three foot high smoke stack.  

Lew Gardner (Dimond-O Scoutmaster 1935/Founder Boots N Blisters)

Being Scoutmaster at Dimond-O of the Ranger’s Troop until Uncle Sam called me off to help fight his war.

Pete Taylor (Oakland Area Council staff, MIWOK Training support staff)

On the way to Miwok Lake after climbing the eight switchbacks to get out of the Hetch Hetchy Valley, there was a natural spring that was ice cold, so cold that it would make your head explode.

Mike Cornwall (Horse Corral - Family Camp)

During the “old” days when the horse program was new at camp, we used to lead trail rides where we had up to 24 riders and horses or during family camp when we used to have an adult wine and cheese sunset rides to the Willits valley overlook.

His favorite saying to Joe Remlinger at camp was:  Did you take a shower today?  No, why is one missing
